White Blocks
09.2018
In the ‘90s Polish cities (especially housing estates) started experimenting with color. Today many pastel colors mixed together on one facade don’t seem to surprise anyone. Our project set out to bring aesthetics back to Polish housing estates, emphasising their modernist architecture at the same time understanding the need for distinctness among residents of particular blocks. The picture of the first building we painted white, at Lelewela street, broke all our social media records and gained huge media attention. The need to tone down colors of building exteriors was also present in social research we conducted with the residents of Gdynia, creating the organization’s program for upcoming years.
